Nothing like sitting at a tiny table at The Whiskey in Chicago with 3 awesome cinematographers (Stephen Goldblatt, ASC; Rodney Charters, ASC; Nancy Schreiber, ASC) and conversing with them about the changes in filmmaking and listening to them recount stories from their 40-something years of experience (EACH!) to really put things into perspective.
As part of the HDDSLR “revolution” many of us have forgotten a little about what has come before us and have fallen in love with a “look” and with technology. It’s still all about storytelling, and they most certainly reminded me of that. It was a humbling experience… sitting there with Lan… our combined ages not equal to that of any one of the other three people in our little group… and our combined experience not equal to a hundredth of theirs.
But it makes me look forward to the future.
