Q:How often do you use photoshop and what is your workflow?
I try not to use Photoshop unless it’s absolutely necessary, so really the answer depends on the project. If it’s a headshot or portrait session for a client… almost every image goes to Photoshop (PS). For most other things Lightroom (LR) takes care of everything I need.
I have many workflows, here’s the main one:
Wedding/event/headshots (high volume of images): Shoot, ingest using Photo Mechanic to 2 locations, use photo mechanic to “edit down”, delete all images not chosen, picks are renamed and go to LR, apply simple vignette/contrast preset for proofs, export proofs, upload to one of the services I use. When client picks come back, edit in LR, round-trip retouch in PS, export through LR.
Most other shoots that are lower in volume go straight into LR. From there I do my picks and edits and round trip retouching or major editing in PS.
