I’m taking more film gear than digital gear on a trip for the first time since 2003.
We’re headed to London for 9 days (to speak at Converge 2 conference) then Miami for 5 days (giving a lighting workshop).
It’s actually been a long time since I’ve brought and film cameras anywhere except for the Holga (which I’ve carried around on and off for 10 years now but only shot maybe 10 rolls total).
The Canon FD lenses will be serving dual purpose, technically… since I have the new FD to micro 4/3 adapter. My preliminary testing looks promising… they look fantastic on the E-P2 and the only tough part is that the focal length AND DOF are doubled. So the 28mm f/2.8 is the equivalent in look to a 56mm 5.6, and the 50mm 1.8 becomes a 100mm 3.6. The most exciting one to me is the 135mm f/2.8 which becomes a 270 f/5.6, which could make for some awesome video!
I think the $0.99 film I got at the 99 cent store is going to be interesting… then I have some Tri-X (of course) and even some XP2 because I’ve never tried it and I want to see how it will compare for its true final display… which is mostly web. I’m guessing there won’t be much of a difference, but I’ll know soon! I also brought 2 rolls of 8 year old Velvia that may or may not even yield any photos… I’m excited and dreadful to see the results of these two!
I wish I hadn’t sold off all my darkroom gear. I didn’t even get much for it!
